When I first saw this, on a first glance, I thought it had to be a video projection mapping where you obtain this cool effect as if the wall moves. But on the contrary, these people actually made it.
Hyundai exhibits in Korea a work comissioned to the Jonpasang Media Artist Group where thousands of oblong 30×30 blocks that move independently turning the room into a display.
Each pixel is made of what looks like a foam block mounted on a stepper-motor-driven linear actuator. The motors make for very accurate and smooth motion, and the control software lets them draw shapes, words, animated objects…
